My Gender Equal Future Poster Competition

In partnership with Swinburne University, Knox City Council and EF Creative PLEDGE held a graphic poster competition. The competition was open to young people who had a connection with the City of Knox.  Entrants were asked to show in a poster a world where everyone enjoys equal opportunities, choices, resources and services. A gender equal world.

We received 24 entries from 6 different schools. The posters were displayed at Gallery 369, Swinburne University, Wantirna Campus. Five finalists received gift vouchers of $50 each and two overall winners received vouchers for $500 each. The two schools who contributed the most entries, Swinburne University and Fairhills Secondary College both received vouchers for $500.

Women's Leadership Workshops

On three consecutive Sunday's in October, PLEDGE ran a series of three workshops for women in Knox. Called the Strong Women workshops they were designed to encourage and support women to gain confidence and discover their strengths and potential.

Due to COVID restrictions, and on discussion with the women who had registered, these workshops were moved on-line.  Eleven women participated in the Zoom workshops. On the final Sunday, every participant had a delicious lunch box delivered to them by a PLEDGE committee member. Thanks to Tasty Az catering for creating these.

Returned evaluations have been overwhelmingly positive with the majority of participants indicating that they had gained confidence, and felt empowerd through attending the group. All participants said they would recommend the PLEDGE workshops to others.

Thanks to Julie Nicolaou and Bianca Andrews for facilitating the workshops.

16 Days of Activism

Each year from 25 November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, to 10 December, World Human Rights Day, the 16 Days of Activism campaign calls for action against one of the world’s most persistent violations of human rights – violence against women.

During the 16 Days of Activism PLEDGE presents the Local Champions for Gender Equality Awards, participates in the campaign and promotes local events. Watch this space for upcoming details for our 2020 activities.
